Welcome to Virtual Estate.
My name is Jared Whittington, owner and operator of Virtual Estate here in New Zealand.
I have been in the web development industry for just over 7 years as a sole trader. Prior to establishing Virtual Estate, I developed casually between hours at my full time job with the Ministry of Social Development.
Web development, much like anything, is in my opinion actually pretty easy once you know what you're doing. Or maybe I'm just wired this way. Nonetheless, I was first labelled an 'IT geek' at the age of 15 when my father who owned an international software company, among several other businesses, introduced me to PHP and MySQL.
I became interested in web development when the High School I was attending dispersed my class around the school. My inability to talk with friends inspired me to make a chat room. So I began to learn about PHP and MySQL through reference books I found on my dad's bookshelf. He helped me build my first Linux server which hosted the chat room from home, and since we disguised the website as an 'Educational HTML Tutorial', we were able to access this throughout the school solving my problem.
As my experience grew, I started to receive work from businesses around New Zealand requesting websites be created for them, including the development of the online registration form for the 'Central Regional Harley Owners Group Rally'. This website handled over $250,000 in just a few months, and the rally co-ordinators (who had little knowledge around computers and the internet) were able to easily retrieve both individual and collective information regarding the attendees from the database. On receipt of this pay cheque, I decided that I would start my own web development business.
A few more years past and my son Elijah James Whittington, was born. Although he had a rough start, being born at only 24 weeks gestation, he is now 12 months old and functions like a normal one year old (with exception to his diagnosis of Chronic Lung Disease). Elijah has become my sole motivation to make this business successful, being that Virtual Estate has subsequently become my full time job. So with a little divine intervention (and your business of course!), we can envisage success after success.
In closing, you should probably use our company unless you want the economy to fail and for us all to wind up back at WINZ.
